Ohau Ski and Snowboard Area Guide

Powder snow, sunshine, friendly people and
un-crowded slopes is the combination that set Ohau
snow-fields apart from the others. High Country skiing and snowboarding at it’s best.

From the 9.6km access road, the views up the valley to Mount Cook and overlooking the lake are spectacular with snatched glimpses of the snow field now and again before opening up to the full panorama on arrival at the car park. Ohau is where people are important. If you have ever had a lesson at Ohau you will know that even though your lesson is over your instructor will still be reminding you across the slopes to keep your body facing down the mountain or to keep your hands forward as you pass by - the lesson didn’t stop after you had paid for your hours instruction.

The beginners area and the Boulevard, which runs the length of the field, supply beginners with ample terrain on an otherwise steeper field. The vertical rise on the chairlift is 345 m and the length 920 m. It gives access to a variety of terrain from wide open intermediate slopes to extreme chutes.

The Lake Ohau Lodge at the base of the access road, on the shores of Lake Ohau is well worth a stay. It is a great stop over half way between Christchurch and Queenstown.
