About Us

McEwings Ski Hire came into being in 1993 when two brothers Noel and Paul McGuigan spotted a gap in the market in Christchurch and decided to fill it. Since the day it opened it is still the largest, fastest and friendliest snow sports specific hire shop in the Canterbury region. Keeping it in the family, Noels son, Rory formed a partnership with industry colleague Tony Trafford and took the business over in 2005. Following a major re-brand for the 2006 season Rory and Tony aim to continue and enhance the established reputation that the McEwings name already has.

Rory McGuigan – Director

A Canterbury local who is passionate about skiing and snowboarding. Rory basically grew up on a pair of skis and cut his teeth ski racing in the Canterbury region. He represented New Zealand in North America, before adding snowboarding to his talents and switching to Boarder X and slope style events. He has done many seasons abroad including Colorado, Australia and Switzerland.

Tony Trafford - Director

Tony attended university in Canterbury and fell in love with the majestic Southern Alps and all they have to offer. He had skiied from an early age in the North Island, but it was here in Canterbury where his love for snowboarding blossomed. Tony has wintered in both Japan and Europe, but always returns to the Southern Hemisphere to get his fix of the New Zealand snow season.
